A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS
On Saturday, May 28th Bascom Lodge will celebrate the start of its 79th season of operation with its annual Native American Festival.
Once again, the lodge is pleased to announce that at the conclusion of the day-long festivities, after the music has faded into memory, the dancing has whined down, and the drums have been silenced, a limited number of guests will have the unique opportunity to gather, eat, and spend the night camping out in a teepee on the highest mountain in southern New England.
As you take your places in the teepee, and the history of the Mohican people is recounted, you will feast on a traditionally inspired meal -

WATERCRESS, APPLE, DRIED CRANBERRIES AND HICKORY NUT SALAD

BRAISED RABBIT IN HARD CIDER prepared with onions, garlic, celery, carrots, mushrooms, hard cider, parsley, bay leaf and thyme

GRILLED SALMON with a succotash of grilled corn, ramps, beans and peppers

CORN CAKES WITH PEPPERS STUFFED WITH WILD MUSHROOMS in a fresh tomato sauce

DESSERT:
BLACK CURRANT SORBET
Following dinner, everyone will gather around the fire to relax to the rhythm of meditation drums.
Then, as dusk approaches Mars will ascend the eastern horizon. In the darkness of the moonless sky Mars, closer to earth on this night than at any other point in the year, will dominate the heavens; until the waning moon appears at dawn.
What a perfect time to stargaze!
With Chef Joseph Long Toe as your guide, you will embark on the age-old oral tradition of recounting the creation stories, the tales of the origin of the stars, and the legends of the "people of the waters that never rest."
Accommodations are limited.
(In the event of inclement weather, overnight stay in the lodge's bunk room)
