June

Sunday, June 16 . Watercolor Workshop with Roy Superior, 10am-6pm.

Watercolor painting enjoys a very long tradition in the history of art. Once considered a medium “secondary” to oil painting, watercolor has re-emerged as a medium of great immediacy, portability, sensitivity, delicacy and unique poetry. All methods and techniques from wet-on-wet to dry brush will be explored with an emphasis on the eternal artists’ issues of composition, color, shape and form, etc. There is no more direct method than watercolor for an artist to express his/her responses to the world around them with freedom, spontaneity and a flying brush!
The workshop will begin with at 10AM with a slide lecture “A Brief History of Watercolor.” That will be followed by a discussion of materials: brushes, paper, pigments, pallets and then a demonstration of various techniques: wet on wet, dry-brush, etc. and preparatory methods of composition and structure.
The workshop will be limited to 15 students with both beginning to advanced experience so that the instructor can provide the maximum of individual attention.  All instruction and critiques will be given in cognition of each individual’s own level of development.
Meet in lobby.
The fee for the day will be $85. Please reserve a spot early by emailing the artist at rsuperior@comcast.net.
Fee does not include materials. When registering a materials list will be provided.

Roy Superior has been an Art Professor for almost five decades, having taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Hampshire College, Hartford Art School of the University of Hartford and many other institutions of higher education.

August

Sunday, August 4: The Magic Woods - A Photographic Workshop
with Monika Sosnowski

The Grass is Always Greener, 2011-13

Artists and writers have been inspired by the majesty of mountains and the mystery of forests in a variety of ways.  Herman Melville imagined Mt. Greylock as a massive great white whale and that vision fueled him to write one of the best American stories, Moby Dick.“ In this photographic workshop we will learn ways of transforming the physical splendor and awesomeness of Mt. Greylock and its surrounding forest, by creating images that suggest a narrative beyond the subject matter’s natural attributes. We will utilize and understand the creative impacts of the natural elements: light, shadow, wind, and time of day with the technical aspects of our cameras: lenses, f-stops, exposure. How something is perceived makes all the difference creatively. We can find our own versions of Melville's whale.
All levels of photographic skill are welcome.
Meet in Bascom Lodge on the porch.
Workshop will run:10am-4:30pm
Cost: $75 (includes beverages and pastries at the beginning of the workshop, and one bottle of water per person).

Sunday, August 25: Alchemy Initiative presentsPhotography Workshop
with Bill Wright

This course is designed to build a relationship between you and the metal, plastic, and glass contraption that taunts you every time you pick it up.Seriously, most people are either frustrated or intimidated by their digital cameras, in fact they shouldn't be. Operating the camera is really pretty simple, once you understand the foundations of photography and light.

During this workshop I will do a quick lesson on the fundamentals of exposure, which is one of the critical factors in taking great pictures. We will spend time talking about how to expose properly in any given situation. We work & talk about how to use your cameras in the Manual Mode.

We will also talk about the various elements, or "rules" of composition. How to avoid common mistakes and how to set you on your own course of discovery by introducing new ideas in composition, helping you "see" your shot before you take it.
